Say what needs to be said.
Sometimes you know something needs to be said. The hard part is knowing how to say it without abandoning yourself or escalating the situation.
Opener
"I've been thinking about this, and I want to be straightforward: I'm not going to be able to keep doing X."
Opener
"There's something I need from you, and I'd rather ask directly than hope you notice."
Opener
"Thank you for thinking of me. I'm not going to be able to say yes to this."

"I've been sitting with our conversation. I want to come back to it — not to relitigate, but to repair."

"I did something that hurt you. I'm not here to explain it away. I'm here to own it."

"Something you said (or did) landed harder than I let on in the moment, and I want to name it."
